I started playing professionally and teaching in the mid
1980’s. My first gig experiences were in variety bands
playing weddings and various social events
but I was quickly
recruited into a thriving rock and roll cover band scene.
During the latter 1980’s and early 1990’s I often traveled
overseas for the Department Of Defense and delivered rock n
roll to the troops as far as Japan, Korea, Honduras, Panama,
Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Here at home there was also plenty of travel within Colorado
and the large towns of South Dakota, Wyoming and New Mexico.
Since the mid 1990’s I have been working as a freelance
guitarist playing weddings and various special events for
some of the local entertainment
agencies as well as booking
my own gigs under Shades of Guitar and Jazzindigo.
The past ten years I have significantly reduced my travel
and
have been able to commit more time to private guitar
instruction. From my earliest teaching experiences I have
found that the study of a musical instrument enriches ones
life and that there is a sense of personal achievement that
the student and teacher experience that proves to be very
gratifying. I maintain a student roster of approximately 50
students a week and although I often have a waitin g list I
make every effort to get new students a spot on my schedule.
I find I develop a great rapport with students and that they
generally stay with me for years. I feel fortunate to be
able to help and encourage people of any background to play
guitar and make music.
My wife Lisa and I are the proud owners of two
mixed breed dogs who we refer to as the guitar dogs. Nica and Jasmine
accompany me to my teaching studio a few days each week and
provide their services as good will ambassadors. When we are
not working we enjoy running, hiking and quality time as a
family. |
